So in the end this is only 4 stars, but solid ones. But it did spoil certain chapters of the book, like the one with Wassilissa, who I thought had a lot of potential for an awesome character. This is such a male thinking that it's not even sexist, it's just ridiculous.

There's a wide range of, fortunately not too important, females in the story, but all of them are united by the fact that they are either a male's dream-one-night-stand (nymphomanic, hot, and totally set on the protagonist) or a male's nightmare (either masculine or plain ugly) - but the latter ones want sex with the protagonist, too. Lukyanenko is plain unable to write any credible female character. While these are barely minor points of critique, there's one major flaw about the story, which kept annoying me: It's especially the crediblity of the worlds and their system that totally drew me into the book, despite the fact there could've been a lot more plot within the worlds, more conflict and more of other characters before solving the story. comedy and serious elements go well together as the secret of the different worlds are slowly revealed. With fast paced writing (and finally a good German translation, unlike Nightwatch's) and a style ranging between a bit too sloppy and superb, Lukyanenko creates a credible setting with a protagonist, whose most moves the reader can well relate to. When Kyrill receives anonymous orders to come to a deserted tower near a moscow station, and finds a door that leads to a completly different world, the story starts developing.

Only one of his friends manages to reconstruct knowing him by writing himself notes about Kyrill. Set in current-time Moskow, the story develops around protagonist Kyrill, who returns home one day to find a stranger living in his apartment and neighbours, friends and family forgetting all about his existence. Lukyanenkos "Weltengänger", whatever it might be in English if it ever gets translated, is a solid piece of modern fantasy, minus a half star because the author can't seem to manage writing any decent female character.
